DZRH News Television opens an online poll for Filipino netizens regarding temporary freedom for the imprisoned public official, Sen. Liela de Lima.
The politician was restrained after allegations that she was involved in the drug proliferation in the high-security New Bilibid Prison. In addition, she was accused of using drug money during the last elections.
Online polls may not be the deciding factor whether de Lima will be temporarily freed from prison or not, however, it has some influence of what the pubic currently feels about the issue.
With the current trend, public officials linked to crimes and scandals usually do not have a favorable stance in the public. People believe what the media will be feeding. Given the enormous support for President Rodrigo Duterte, de Lima is on hot water who vocally opposing the leader of the state.
The online poll was done via Facebook Live with the question, “Payag ka bang bigyan ng pansamtalang kalayaan si Sen. de Lima?” (Do you agree to give temporary freedom for Sen. de Lima?) For those who agree, they will hit the like emoji. For those who don’t, they will hit the angry emoticon.
For the time being, those who say “Yes” are numbered 2,500+ while who disagree numbered 25,000+. The figures has a staggering landslide – in ratio, 1 out of 10 only agree to her temporary freedom. The 90% majority blatantly speaks for what the general public has to say about the issue.
As usual, both parties (pro or anti de Lima) have trolls on the comment section. It’s sad to see that many resort to hate speech in communicating this important political issue.
