Divorce, Abortion, Euthanasia, and Death Penalty – these are only some of the most controversial topics that political and religious leaders debated throughout the ages. With the advent of social media, everyone seems to enter the brawl of arguments for or against the measures.
A YouTube channel, #DeathPenaltyFail Campaign, has been posting videos against death penalty since for five months now. They are fighting against any form of execution holding strong the principle that “no one has the right to take someone else’s life”.
The most striking video is a fail operation of a lethal injection. It features a criminal guilty of murder on the brink of death. However, things did not go well. The criminal suffered a painful dead — a burning sensation in the chest — in of the officers, the press, and his immediate family.
Lethal injection has been considered as the “most humane” compared to other ways of public execution. It uses three types of chemicals to be injected executed via the IV tubes. The first chemical is Sodium thiopental, a chemical that hits the brain and the nervous system so that the executed wont feel anything. It is like a medically induced coma. The second chemical is Pancuronium bromide which paralyzes all the muscles particularly the diaphragm. Lastly, the third chemical Potassium chloride which will stop the beating of the heart.
All these chemical should be injected in the correct order or else the executed will feel extreme pain just like the one in the first video. One of the risks of countries having lethal injection is that the team of executioners are prison guards who are trained but do not have any medical background at all.
Death penalty is now a trending topic in the Philippine since the present administration tries to revive the law in the country.
