Philippine child celebrity, Xia Vigor, just got the world’s attention after her very cute Taylor Swift impersonation on ABS-CBN Saturday night show, You Face Sounds Familiar Kids.
While she did not get the top spot that night, she won the people’s heart, particularly the Swifties. International bloggers from Hollywood have written about Xia Vigor making her an instant worldwide trend.
However, fame comes at a price because of people who judge without realizing the context. Many people outside the Philippines finds the video disturbing. (See the comment section of the YouTube video above).
Most of the netizens who complained find the show as a form of sexual exploitation of children. They even go far to the extent of suggesting to end the show and imprison those who are behind the production.
Such negative comments are the result of hasty judgement without understanding the context. Bashers fail to realize that Xia is already a famous child actress and her whole performance is nothing but an act.
Filipino netizens apparently defended Xia’s act. The Filipino community, though conservative in terms of values, do not really see it as a promiscuous demonstration. It is just a plain cute charm of a kid.
People outside the country may have different opinions and can be tolerated. However, in the benchmarks of cultural relativism, I always make a stand after understanding the context.
Xia Vigor first come into fame after winning a noontime show – It’s Showtime – segment, Mini Me 2, where she impersonated Selena Gomez. After her victory, she have a surge of projects from the television network.
Xia, at her age demonstrate incredible talent in acting. Her charm includes exquisite communication skills using a British English accent which astonishes the Filipino audience.
The video uploaded by Your Face Sounds Familiar last January 15, 2017 generated more 2.6 million hits as of this writing.
