It has been established, given the robotic products available in the market, that human beings tend to anthropomophize everything. We somehow treat everything as if they are humans.
Part of making robots more human like summons many outcries among gender groups. Human beings have genders and the same trait can be passed on to robots.
The soon to be revolution will spread the traditional stereotypes of gender roles. For example, manly robots are those which work on the mines, on garbage facilities, or on war. Whereas, “women” robots work as waitresses and tend to be attractive as receptionist.
The developing work of robotics will further question — in matters of gender — if female robots need breasts. This could further objectify women or men for that extent. An unguided AI robotic growth could enhance gender stereotypes.
Perhaps, whatever human hands create is a reflection of his/her values in the society. In a patriarchal West, robots might be assigned in a male-mentality set-up.
Feminist groups may speak up and help in the development in robotics. Perhaps, they are the best people who can contribute further to a more humane society with robots in the future.
