Yes, you read it right. Men who harass women online are most likely losers on video games.
The findings was based on a scientific set-up of two researchers analyzing the behavior of men while playing 163 games of Halo 3. Players anonymously interact with each other by voice. Most of them are men.
Whenever they hear female voices during the game, their reaction changes. When they suck on the game, losers usually bring out negative statements against women. Towards to the victors, they are more submissive.
It has been observed that most of losers have a negative attitude against women. Whereas, those who excel on the games are pleasant to other players regardless of gender.
On a psychological perspective, the scenario can be explained by saying that aggression is a defense mechanism of men to maintain their status. If they cannot beat the winners of the game, they look for other people who they can display their power. They want to feel great. Since, for the time being, women are not as good as men in video games, they are a favorite target of petty boy losers.
What worries the researchers the most that video games has the potential to segregate gender in the society. Video games may reinforce sexist remarks. To make matters worst, the video game market is very much dominated by the young population of teenagers.
Then again, basing on previous researches, contrary to popular belief, there is no direct logical connection of violence and video games. In fact, instances of violence among the youth decreases throughout time.
