Before she became “Yaya Dub” in GMA 7’s Eat Bulaga kalye serye, she was an ordinary girl in the Philippines. Her fame started when she posted random videos in Dubmash.
Dubmash is a mobile application that allows to create videos dubbed with famous sounds. The sound could be coming from a music video or a famous narrative from a celebrity. By imitating the possible facial expressions of someone, fun begins. For now the application is available in iOS App Store and Google Play. It is considered as one of the most famous social media apps gathering around 50 million users in 192 countries around the world.
Back to the main topic, Yaya Dub’s real name is Nicomaine Dei Capili Mendoza, or popularly known as “Maine Mendoza”. She was born at Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Philippines with her twin sister, Bianca Yu. Mendoza got a bachelor degree of Hotel and Restaurant Management major in Culinary Arts on De La Salle-College of St. Benilde. She also pursued her career working in New York.
Maine stardom started when she upload dubmash compilations of her impersonations of Kris Aquino – a famous celebrity in the Philippines and sister of Pres. Benigno Aquino III. One of her videos she posted on her Facebook became viral gathering over 1 million views within 24 hours. Because of it, she was given the name “Dubmash Queen.”
After several opportunities in the entertainment industry, she met personally Kris Aquino herself. She audition for Eat Bulaga and got into the Yaya Dub role, the nanny of Lola Nidora — a character played by Wally Bayola.
Starting from a subtle chemistry on the screen, Yaya Dub’s popularity escalated when she was linked to a handsome co-Star, Alden Richards. Thus the famous hashtag goes, #AlDub.
