Nokia 808 PureView Hits Nokia Store Philippines; Priced at Php. 26, 950.00
The camera phone that shocked the mobile world and nearly brought down GSMArena’s servers, the Nokia 808 PureView is now available for purchase at your nearest Nokia Stores in the Philippines. This is indeed good news for current N8 users in the Philippines who seemed eagerly awaiting for eternity for Nokia’s upgrade to the N8, which is still one of the best camera phones Nokia has produced as manifested by how hard the competitions are still trying to catch up. Nokia has upped the ante when it announced the 808 PureView last February at the Mobile World Congress when they equipped 808 with a 41 Megapixel sensor. Though stuck in the minds of the audience was the 41 MP sensor, the technology behind such feat was even more impressive as Nokia claimed that it was not just about the number of pixels but how it was utilized to deliver crisp, detailed pictures by a method known as oversampling. This simply means that whenever the 808 takes a shot at 3, 5, 8, MP it uses the full 34 MP sensor for 16:9 aspect ratio or 38 MP for 4:3 aspect ratio and combines those pixels to create a super pixel. Aside from this it has the ability to use lossless zoom because of the sensor size. Sample shots of the 808 has gotten many avid cameraphone fans excited.
However, while the camera is its main selling point, many techies find the 808 PureView OS, Symbian or Nokia Belle, the major drawback of the device. According to MisterJonJon.com
The 808 PureView is still running on Symbian (Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1) and my initial impressions with the updated OS is, sorry… meh. I don’t know, after using Windows Phone I really don’t want to go back to Symbian anymore. Not much has changed from Nokia Belle to the FP1 version. What I noticed is they just added a couple of new widgets, some nicer transitions, and my biggest rant is the keyboard is still the same.
Some Nokia fans however, are passing on this first iteration of the PureView and are opting to wait for a WP version.
Prices for the Nokia 808 PureView are said to be at Php. 26, 590.00. Quite steep or you can simply wait for a couple of months for prices to drop down.
