When I updated my Android Facebook App today, I was quite glad because it was not just another major update but because it came with new functionality and a refreshing look. Facebook has promised that users will experience “…quicker and easier to view photos, get messages and navigate around the app.” Timeline is just right across the horizon and I felt this update was what Android Facebook users really needed. Fortunately, this update seems to need another update.
News of the updated was circulating around the web but I only tried to find out about it when HTC emailed me of the update. I then opened my Android Market app and went to My Apps for any notification of the scheduled Facebook app update. No message or notification greeted me. It was really confusing since news of the update have been spreading all over the web already. And so, I hit the search button and looked for the Facebook App and once it was found, it told me that an update to the app was available.
Everything worked perfectly fine while trying the new features. That ended when I tried to update my status. When I clicked Status, everything went blank and the force close error message appeared. I just thought the phone just needed a restart. So I rebooted my HTC Evo 4g and tried the app one more time. Again, another Force Close error message. So I went back to my Android Market App and looked at the comments section and found out I was not the only one experiencing a Force Close error message the Facebook App. In fact the comments section was on fire as users began pouring out their distaste at the the latest update.
Here are some of the screen shots of the comments.
Now notice one of the screen shots above. Matt suggested that by uninstalling the Facebook App and then re installing it would solve the force close problem experienced by in the HTC Evo 4G. I tried his suggestion but was still met with the same problem. I guess I’ll just have to wait for an update fix on this new update. Talking about spoiled fun. Hopefully Facebook will sort this out as many of the users are extremely pissed about this update. What do you think of this fiasco? Did Facebook hurriedly release the app without verifying whether it would work flawlessly? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
