In case you are wondering why your Windows XP Desktop Icons have a background, here is a quick guide to restore your transparent background of your XP Desktop Icons.
To set the transparent background of your desktop icons, you’ll need to open System Properties in Control Panel or right-click My Computer and select Properties.
On the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and then the Settings button under the Performance section.
This will provide your desktop icons a transparent background.

Steps to change the background of desktop icons in Windows Xp:
- Right click on desktop goto Properties.
- Go to the Desktop Tab.
- In the Desktop Tab, You will find the option to change the color at the bottom right side.
- Change the color as per your need and click apply and then OK.
- The background color of desktop icons will be changed to the color selected.
